PolyMatrix "A" represents the racing brake industry's ultimate achievements in friction material for severe duty, extended high temperature braking. Originally developed for tracks such as Martinsville or Watkins Glen, this phenomenal material provides the highest friction torque values and will outlast all other brake pads. "A" compound comes on smooth under light or heavy braking. It provides excellent cold friction for qualifying and restarts after long caution periods. As rotor temperatures increase, friction continues to rise with smooth engagement and fade-free performance over the full range. This gives the driver never-felt-before confidence to drive deeper into the corners, without the worry of upsetting the car. And, even under the harshest conditions "A" Compound has the strength and durability to go the distance.
"A" compound is a superb material on both cast iron and high strength steel alloy racing rotors. It reaches peak performance after one high temperature bedding cycle. Once bedded, it provides a consistently smooth transfer layer during sustained high temperature runs, and eliminates any engagement pulsing or chatter that can result from uneven material build up on the rotor faces. a smooth transfer layer also provides quick, predictable release for maximum consistency. The uniform thermal transfer characteristics of all PolyMatrix compounds will minimize hot spotting and heat checking. Rotor life is ultimately extended over other hard or abrasive brake pad compounds.
Wilwood PolyMatrix 'A'' Compound Characteristics:
Wilwood is a leading manufacturer of high-performance brake systems and components to fit a wide range of track and street applications. They offer everything from individual components like rotors, calipers, and pads to complete bolt-on kits.
Wilwood Engineering designs and manufactures high-performance disc brake systems. Since the company’s inception in 1977 by Bill Wood, we have developed a substantial matrix of brake components and engineering techniques that allow us to quickly and reliably create brake systems for almost any application. Our core ability is the rapid development of custom engineered brake systems using a combination of off-the-shelf and custom components. In addition to designing and manufacturing brakes for all types of competitive motorsports, Wilwood also manufactures brake systems and components for agricultural equipment, industrial applications, utility vehicles, snowmobiles, quads, motorcycles and military vehicles.
With headquarters in Camarillo, California, Wilwood employs approximately 320 people. We have on-shelf stock of more than 300 different brake calipers, 200 rotor designs, 100 master cylinder designs and a wide assortment of brackets, fittings, valves and brake lines. Our off-shelf brake calipers range in size from tiny calipers used on go-carts and light duty industrial equipment to heavy-duty original equipment brakes for the U.S. military Humvee.
Wilwood's engineering department uses the latest computer-aided design and manufacturing techniques in conjunction with finite element analysis, dynamic test and cycle test equipment to find high-performance and reliability solutions for the most difficult braking tasks. Our extensive inventory of proprietary on-the-shelf components allow us to provide cost-effective solutions for unique brake applications.
Wilwood is ISO 9000 compliant and has extensive experience maintaining quality levels of 100ppm or less for original equipment manufacturers.
