A correctly fitted helmet should feel as if an evenly distributed pressure is continuously being exerted around the head and cheeks. Helmets, like shoes, will break in. For this reason, the helmet should fit as tight as you can stand to wear it. Once fastened, make sure the helmet cannot be pulled off of the head in any direction. If the helmet moves significantly, the helmet is too big. First time helmet buyers tend to choose helmets that are too loose or too big. If the helmet does not fit well, it cannot deliver the level of protection you need. The Snell Memorial Foundation, Inc. has finalized its SA2020 Standard for Protective Headgear which applies to auto racing ... helmets. Although there are several changes in test requirements and procedures from the SA2020 Standard, Snell certified auto racing helmets are very much the same as they have been. Snell SA2015 vs SA2020 …what’s changed? The Snell SA2020 testing requirements have changed a small amount and have now become more in line with the FIA 8859 Helmet Standard. Increased velocity by 5-10% for impact testing on the 2nd hit across all shell sizes. Increased velocity from 5.7 to 6.0 m/s on the 54cm to 59cm size. Increased peak G threshold on the 54cm to 59cm size and 60cm-64cm size.

SPARCO HELMETS

The Sparco helmet line is a result of over 40 years of research and development experience, including wind tunnel testing. The new range was designed to meet the requirements of the new FIA 8859-2015 and New Snell SA2020 ratings. The 2020 type-approval introduces new impact requirements, the helmets need to dissipate large amounts of energy in different ways. To meet these requirements Sparco is introducing new innovations for driver safety and comfort. All shells now have layers of carbon-Kevlar for greater strength. The helmets have also been wind-tunnel tested to maximize exterior vent placement and flow. The EPS interiors and padding have also been redesigned for increased airflow and driver comfort. Sparco also introduces a new size: Medium/Large. This M/L size takes advantage of using the smaller shell which is lighter and more compact.
