Smart-Pad BP-10 Characteristics:

  • Medium friction compound with the low noise and low dust of a street performance compound and the increased friction characteristics of a semi-metallic race compound.
  • Smooth engagement with consistent response from a flat torque curve throughout its entire effective temperature range.
  • Good low to middle temperature wear rates.
  • Beds quickly and provides fast response without excessive abrasion on vented iron rotors. Applications
  • High performance street / strip, drag race, and track day categories using vented iron rotors.
  • Light to medium braking on dirt tracks including late models, modifieds, sportsman, and street stocks.
  • Disc brake conversions on street rods and muscle cars.

Wilwood Pad Compounds: Wilwood brake pad compounds are the results of three decades of experience and continual development to provide optimized braking and driver feel for all types of motor sport and competition applications. This selection guide is intended to provide general characteristics and applications for each compound. On-track testing and driver evaluation however, will always remain the determining factor to final pad selection.

Pad Selection Tips: Temperature range and overall friction value are the primary considerations for pad selection. The pads must be capable of maintaining the proper amount of friction for stopping power within the temperatures that will be realized on the track during the event. Then, overall wear rate must be considered. For most asphalt and road race applications, compounds in the high temperature ranges over 1000?F range are usually necessary. Dirt track, drag race, and street performance applications usually operate at temperatures between 500? and 1000?F. Keep in mind that these are general ranges, and not absolute values. Many factors and unforeseen influences can affect brake temperatures. The best indicator for pad selection will always be on track performance. If pad fade (friction loss) due to overheating occurs, then improved cooling, a heavier rotor, or a higher temperature range pad may all become necessary.

Wilwood brake pads are the result of a never ending development process that dates back to the company's origin in 1977. The goal has always been to provide the highest level of performance for all categories of competition and performance driving. For nearly three decades, Wilwood has been deeply involved in all types of motor sports. This involvement includes more than just hands-on experience from expert design and development engineers.

The Wilwood development team includes manufacturing specialists, field trained technical application staff, and a broad structured network of championship car builders, parts distributors, crew chiefs, and race teams just like you. Their involvement and expertise have played an integral role in the development and production of Wilwood brake pads. This network can be found at work and competing at tracks around the world on any given weekend.

Over the years, Wilwood has developed an extensive information base that has fueled development of the world's broadest based line of high performance disc brake products. Throughout this time, facts and data, not casual observation and opinion, have drawn conclusions that neither a single pad compound or compound type can effectively satisfy all drivers in all conditions. To meet the requirements of such a broad range of racing and sport driving applications, Wilwood has developed a highly diversified selection of compounds and pads. The available selections provide incremental changes in friction values, temperature operating range, as well as other characteristics, that are capable of satisfying the stopping requirements of nearly any motor sport application. Proof is evident in the wide spread use of the PolyMatrix family of compounds and several other specialized application materials.

Wilwood is a leading manufacturer of high-performance brake systems and components to fit a wide range of track and street applications. They offer everything from individual components like rotors, calipers, and pads to complete bolt-on kits.

Wilwood Engineering designs and manufactures high-performance disc brake systems. Since the company’s inception in 1977 by Bill Wood, we have developed a substantial matrix of brake components and engineering techniques that allow us to quickly and reliably create brake systems for almost any application. Our core ability is the rapid development of custom engineered brake systems using a combination of off-the-shelf and custom components. In addition to designing and manufacturing brakes for all types of competitive motorsports, Wilwood also manufactures brake systems and components for agricultural equipment, industrial applications, utility vehicles, snowmobiles, quads, motorcycles and military vehicles.

With headquarters in Camarillo, California, Wilwood employs approximately 320 people. We have on-shelf stock of more than 300 different brake calipers, 200 rotor designs, 100 master cylinder designs and a wide assortment of brackets, fittings, valves and brake lines. Our off-shelf brake calipers range in size from tiny calipers used on go-carts and light duty industrial equipment to heavy-duty original equipment brakes for the U.S. military Humvee.

Wilwood's engineering department uses the latest computer-aided design and manufacturing techniques in conjunction with finite element analysis, dynamic test and cycle test equipment to find high-performance and reliability solutions for the most difficult braking tasks. Our extensive inventory of proprietary on-the-shelf components allow us to provide cost-effective solutions for unique brake applications.

Wilwood is ISO 9000 compliant and has extensive experience maintaining quality levels of 100ppm or less for original equipment manufacturers.
