An exposed battery connection is one dropped wrench away from a short that ends the day, and track debris finds bare terminals eventually. Terminal boots are the cheapest insurance on the car. A red boot that shields the positive stud on an alternator from direct contact, accepting 8 AWG wire and up to 1/4 Inch eyelet ring terminals.
