Crush washers are rounded washers made out of softer metal. When a fitting or bolt is screwed down against this washer it gets “crushed” and forms around the bolt. This creates a seal around the bolt. They are often used in oil pans plugs, and also in fuel system applications like fuel cell bulkheads.
