The torque tube houses the driveshaft and carries engine torque reaction into the chassis, making it a structural member as much as a driveline part. A bent or cracked tube misaligns the driveline and can damage the engine plate. High-strength aluminum construction gives the stiffness needed with far less weight than steel.
