Tear off posts hold the laminated tear offs on a helmet shield, and a post that loosens mid-race leaves a driver unable to clear mud from their vision. Being able to pull a clean tear off is a safety issue as much as a convenience. Locking designs stay put through the vibration and impact of a feature.
Two posts per kit covers a single shield.
