The chain tensioner keeps drive chain slack in the correct range as the chain wears and stretches. Too loose and the chain climbs a sprocket, too tight and it destroys bearings. Spring-loaded designs maintain tension automatically through the range of suspension travel.
Kits include bearings and springs so the assembly is complete.
