A bead breaker separates the tire bead from the wheel, which is the hardest part of any tire change and a job done constantly through a race weekend. Doing it by hand risks damaging both bead and wheel. Purpose-built breakers apply force where it belongs, sized to the wheel diameter being worked.
Anything that shortens a tire change gives that time back to setup work.
