It is critical to the longevity of any pulleys, and especially those made of aluminum and used in high RPM racing, that very close attention be paid to correct alignment. The most common problem that arises from misaligned pulleys is premature belt wear, but pulleys that are seriously out of alignment can also cause belts to be thrown off, effectively putting the car out of commission. The longer a set of pulleys stays out of alignment, the greater the chances of extreme wear to the pulley itself. Aluminum pulleys have a tendency to wear quicker than steel, but misalignment will unnecessarily speed up the wear process.
