Trevor Schmid Captures First Pit Stop USA Wingless Sprint Car Series Victory.

MAY 19, 2012 - PETALUMA, CA: Stockton's Trevor Schmid came up with the right combination to break Joe Stornetta's three race winning streak to capture his first ever main event win in the Pit Stop USA Sprint Car Series Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway.

Schmid started out the evening on a high note by setting fast time for the sixteen car wingless sprint car field. After starting in the sixth position, Schmid quickly found himself in second position only three laps into the race. A great battle raged for several laps with Zack Lynskey surrendering the lead to Schmid on lap 8. Klint Simpson and Joe Stornetta both found their way to the front before the two got together coming out of turn 4 and sending both drivers to the rear of the field handing the lead back to Schmid on lap 16.

Schmid set the pace for the final 11 laps while Stornetta stormed all the way from the back to finish second. Sparky Howard methodically gained positions from his 12th starting position to third followed by Lynskey and Scott Hall. Dustin Baxter, Bret Barney, Klint Simpson, Kick Larson and Michael Bakkie rounded out the top ten. Heat race wins went to Geoff Ensign and Scott Hall.
