As the World of Outlaws teams set their sites on the famed Eldora Speedway, some drivers come in hotter than ever. Craig Dollansky is coming off a win just this past Tuesday night at Salina Highbanks Speedway, while Sammy Swindell took the win last Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway in Oklahoma.

However, the Big E holds a special place in the hearts of drivers like Steve Kinser, who leads the ranks of the all-time WoO win list at Eldora, winning 35 times at the half-mile in a 34 year racing career. Not only does Kinser hold the most wins, he also holds the most recent, coveted sprint car event win, the 2010 Kings Royal. Swindell is also up there in the rankings, with 18 wins in his career, with the last one coming in 2006.

But no one comes in with more to prove then Kasey Kahne Racing driver Joey Saldana, who sits fourth on the WoO win list at the Big E and currently sits atop the point standings. Saldana was competing for his first WoO championship in 2010 and fell short after a hard crash in turn three at the Four Crown Nationals at Eldora in September. Saldana was hospitalized and missed the next race on the schedule, dropping him to a fourth place finish in the season standings. However, despite the wreck at the end of last season, Saldana took two of the five event wins in the 2010 season at Eldora.

Roth Motorsports driver Paul McMahan also had a win last season at the half mile, along with Steve Kinser and Ohio native Jac Haudenschild.

Saldana currently holds only a nine point lead over veteran driver Steve Kinser in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings. The Outlaw Thunder doubleheader event takes place this Friday and Saturday, May 6th and 7th at the historic half mile. The show offers a $10,000 purse for each night of racing action.

Despite the wet weather that has drowned the Midwest these past few weeks, Eldora track workers have been working hard to get the show in this weekend. As of Wednesday afternoon, everything is still on for this weekend’s event.

In addition to two full nights of dirt track racing, there will be a Pit Party on Saturday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm at the track. The pit area will be open to fans of all ages with a ticket – enter the pit area to check out the cars, meet their favorite drivers, and get autographs! If you’re looking for a weekend full of four-wide, salute to the fans, side-by-side, dirt track racing, head out to the Big E to see the Outlaws bring the thunder back to Ohio!
