It’s always a tough decision on where to watch a race on any given weekend. Our great country is so saturated with dirt tracks that you can basically show up at any one of them and be guaranteed a great race. This coming weekend has some big events across the country as well. The World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series has two Midwest races on tap and World of Outlaws Late Model Series has the “Commonwealth 100” at Virginia Motor Speedway. The USAC Sprint Cars have an Indiana triple-header this weekend that should prove to be very exciting as well. Weather looks like it could possibly be an issue on the east coast as a storm front is expected to drop rain throughout the east coast.
The One to Watch: If I could attend only one event this weekend (not to mention had the gas money and time) it would be the World of Outlaws Late Model Series “Commonwealth 100” at Virginia Motor Speedway. The nation’s best late model drivers should all be there with $25,000 on the line. Last year’s winner Chris Madden looks to be strong again but will face stiff competition from Shane Clanton, Josh Richards, Darrell Lanigan, Austin Hubbard, Scott Bloomquist (who missed last year’s event due to a six-month suspension), Tim McCreadie, Tim Fuller, Rick Eckert, and the rest of the best late model drivers in the country. The ½ mile clay oval at Virginia Motor Speedway should be the place to be for great dirt track racing this weekend.
Checkout the weekend’s schedule below, and as always make sure you check with the track or series to confirm start times, or to check if weather might be an issue.
