The “Icebreaker 30” at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania marked the beginning of another exciting season of winged 410 sprint car racing with the Pennsylvania Posse.  The season opener at Lincoln was dominated by Brian Montieth who started on the pole and led every lap of the feature in dominating fashion.  This was just the first of many sprint car shows in Pennsylvania which is home to some of the toughest local competitors that touring drivers with the World of Outlaws will face all season.  There aren’t many places where local drivers have a legitimate chance to beat the Outlaws but Pennsylvania is one of those place as the Posse drivers always show up to win.  Weekly shows at Williams Grove, Lincoln, Port Royal, and Selinsgrove regularly get 20+ sprint cars every night and its anybody race as the competition is always fierce.   There are also sprint shows at tracks like Susquehanna, Big Diamond, Clinton County, Grandview, and Bridgeport that draw good crowds.  There are many great drivers in the Pennsylvania Posse and below we will take a look at some of the contenders for 2011.

Brian Montieth

Brian “The Edge” Montieth is the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Lincoln Speedway track champion, 2nd in Williams Grove points, and 3rd in Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car points.  The 36 year old from Phoenixville, PA will again be driving for car owner Jerry Parish in 2011 in the #21 Triple X Chassis, Don Ott Racing Engines, Simpson, Auto Locator, Beer Hill Gang, Pancho’s Race Products, Premier Auto Works, and Hanover Toyota backed entry.  www.brianmontieth.com

Greg Hodnett

Greg Hodnett will be with the Trone Outdoor Motorsports team in 2011 after winning the 2010 Williams Grove track championship, 5th in Port Royal points, 8th in Selinsgrove points, and was the Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car Point Series champion.  He is originally from Memphis, TN but has become a regular in the Pennsylvania Posse for many seasons.  The veteran Hodnett will be behind the wheel of the #39 Trone Outdoor Advertising, Macri Concrete, Eastern Air Ambulance, Salon Utopia, Keystone Trailer Services, B&B Metal Finishing, H&H General Excavating, Eagle Steel, and Eagle Evergreens entry for 2011.  Lee Stauffer will be his crew chief. Hodnett plans to run the All-Stars’ Eastern Region, Williams Grove, Lincoln Speedway, both PA Speedweek’s, some trips to Knoxville, and Kings Royal.  www.greghodnettmotorsports.com

Lance DeWease

Lance DeWease from Fayetteville, PA had yet another successful season in 2010 as he was crowned the Selinsgrove track champion, 7th in Williams Grove points, and 2nd in Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car points.  DeWease will be wheeling the #30C Catoctin Motorsports, Viper Risk Management Group LLC, DMI, Wings Unlimited, Keizer Wheels, Infinity Designs, Morrison Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, Schaeffer Racing Oils, Penske Shocks and Hanks Performance sprint car.  He has started out the season strong running with the World of Outlaws and will probably be running the All-Star East series, Knoxville Nationals, and some area WoO shows.  www.lancedewease.com

Chad Layton

Chad Layton is the 2010 Port Royal track champion, 3rd in Williams Grove points, and 5th in Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car points.  The 34 year old Layton will be racing the Middleswarth Racing #7 again in 2011 with help from Middleswarth Jalapeno Potato Chips, Don Ott Racing Engines, J&J Auto Racing, Simpson, and Weld Wheels.  He will be running a similar schedule to 2010 concentrating on Port Royal and Williams Grove as well as other big money show in PA.  http://chadlayton.com

“Fast Freddie” Rahmer finished up another great season with the Pennsylvania Posse with a 4th in Lincoln points, 6th in Williams Grove points, 3rd in Selinsgrove points, and 7th in Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car points.  The veteran Rahmer from Salfordsville, PA will be in the #51 CJB Motorsports, C&S Lawn & Landscape, True Line Contractors, Pancho’s Racing Products, Real Estate Excel, Bair’s Tree Service, American Fuels, Trevdan Building Supply, Henry Dunn Inc., Specialty Rigging Co., Aran Trading LTD., and Reid’s Tannery backed entry.  He will stay in PA for the 2011 season, concentrating on Lincoln and Williams Grove.  www.fredrahmer.com

Alan Krimes

Alan Krimes is one of Pennsylvania’s up and coming drivers as he finished 2011 3rd in Lincoln points, 5th in Williams Grove points, and 4th in Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car points.  The 31 year old driver from Denver, PA will be in his familiar #87 Maxim Chassis, Krimes Engines, Conestoga Valley Garage, Cochran Drywall, VRP Shocks, Creative Signworks, Hostetter Body Shop, and Mike’s Power Wash sprint for 2011.  He will hit the track at Lincoln and Williams Grove as well as other select PA races.  www.alankrimes.com

Mark Smith

“The Tower City Tornado” Mark Smith from Tower City, PA wrapped up a strong 2010 with a 11th in Lincoln points, 4th in Williams Grove points, 7th in Selinsgrove points, and 8th in Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car points.  Mark will be back in the #7m Mach 1 Chassis house car in 2011 with support from NRG Controls, Entertainment Tents, Bricker’s French Fries, and Rider’s Racing Engines.  He plans to hit the PA circuit again in 2011.  www.mach1chassis.com/Smith%20page.htm

Daryn Pittman

Daryn Pittman is originally from Owasso, OK but has found a new home racing with the Pennsylvania Posse.  Pittman wrapped up a strong 2010 season with 2nd in Selinsgrove points, 14th in Williams Grove points, and 6th in Speed Dawg Central PA Sprint Car points.  He will be back in the #27 Heffner Racing Enterprises, Lelands.com, Pasquartello’s Auto, Maxim Chassis, and Rider’s Racing Engines entry.  Pittman will be in PA again for 2011 at Williams Grove and Selinsgrove.  http://darynpittman.com
