The off-season was short for reigning champ of the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series Jason Myers, after he claimed the 2010 season championship at the Dirt Track in Charlotte last November. The 2011 season opener is only four days away! The season opener will kick off on Friday February 11th at Volusia Speedway Park, all of which is a part of the DIRTCar Nationals which feature 12 straight days of racing.

Myers ended last year on a high note sweeping the World Finals at Charlotte and being the first California native to win the series championship. His 2010 run seems even more impressive when you consider that his team is a single car operation. But will Myers be able to find the magic that enabled him to capture 12 victories last year and an impressive 36 top five finishes? Even with all of the impressive stats followers of the popular Sprint Car series are looking to another veteran of the series for a popular upset this year.

Joey Saldana is the one of the early favorites to take home the 2011 season championship and give Kasey Kahne Racing its first World Of Outlaws championship. Over the past two seasons no driver has topped Saldana’s 33 victories. With his 13 wins and 38 top fives last season, he was battling up for the 2010 season championship before a scary and freak accident at Eldora left missing a night of racing and kept the veteran from having any real shot at the 2010 season championship. He would eventually finish 4th in the standings.

Of course there are a lot more drivers than just Saldana who will be looking to dethrone Meyers this season. You still have Steve Kinser and Teammate Donny Schatz who both won at the 2010 DIRTcar Nationals. Kinser will be competing for his unbelievable 21st championship and Schatz who finished 2nd in last years standings will be competing for his 5th title. Also joining the 2011 fight will be contenders like Paul McMahan, Jason Sides, Craig Dollansky, Lucas Wolfe, Jac Haudenschild, and Ben Gregg to just name a few.  Make sure you check out the action February 11th or check back here at one dirt for the results from the 40th DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.
