More About Trick Titanium

Scitex, LLC is the company formed to combine two leading edge companies in the design and manufacture of quality and light weight titanium products; Trick Titanium and Stealth Engineering & Technologies. Scitex, LLC operates under the name Trick Titanium.

Trick Titanium, a name that began over 45 years ago in a small aircraft welding shop. In 1970, the “Motown Missile” driver, Dick “Barney” Oldfield, and Ted Spehar, the motor builder, found the shop down the street from their operation. When the racers felt the light-weight products made from titanium, they realized what this meant for them, faster cars without the drag from heavy parts.

When the Motown Missile was revealed in 1973 at Pomona, other drivers caught a glimpse of the small titanium suspension pieces. Don Carlton drove the Dodge to a time of 9.22 seconds, the quickest run ever recorded by an NHRA-legal Pro Stocker at the time. When the “Motown Missile” blew past the competition, the Trick Titanium received hundreds of phone calls for titanium fabricated parts. The first titanium retainers ever distributed were to Chrysler Corporation in 1972.

In 1975, as word began to spread of the weightlessness of the titanium, General Motors Performance crew purchased products in large quantities. Eventually, the performance division of Ford, SV0, circulated the products and indirectly distributed them to Roush Racing. Finally, when Ford backed off performance racing, Trick products were picked up by Cam Dynamics and later Cam Companies in the same year.

Trick Titanium developed the only titanium bellhousing in the world back in the 1970’s when the need was realized for a safe and lightweight bellhousing. Safe not only to protect the driver from exploding clutches but for the crowds watching 8,000 hp nitro breathing beasts race down the quarter mile in under 4 seconds. A Trick Titanium bellhousing is the gold standard of all bellhousings built worldwide.

Stealth Engineering & Technologies began in 1989 and the first products were titanium engine valves. It later made titanium spring retainers, wrist pins, copper seats and other light weight engine components.
