The second race of the season for the Monster Energy Sprint Series ended with a familiar face in victory lane as World of Outlaw veteran Terry McCarl picked up the $2,600 win.  The win was McCarl’s first of 2011 and first win since injuries put an end to a large part of his 2010 season.  The feature started with Jimmy Hurley taking the lead but was soon halted by caution with Mike Hess spinning his machine after only a lap.  On the following restart Jerrod Hull brought out the yellow flag with a flat right rear after making contact with Terry Babb.  Hurley was able to build a good lead when racing continued but a fierce battle for second ensued between Brian Brown, Robbie Standridge, McCarl, and Jeremy Standridge.

By the tenth lap McCarl put the pass on Brown for second and then a caution for a spun Ben Wagoner on lap 13 bunched the field back up.  Another caution followed on lap 14 as Robbie Standridge hooked a rut and spun out while running fourth.  On the restart McCarl found his groove running a diamond line in turns one and two and used it to take the lead from Hurley on the 16th lap.  Only one more caution slowed the field as McCarl pulled away to record the win in the #55 TK Concrete and Vermeer Motorsports entry.  Hurley came home one spot short of pulling off the sweep and winning his heat and the dash but ran second in the feature.  Brian Brown was third while Danny Lasoski and Terry Babb completed the top five.

Terry McCarl talked about how he made adjustments to his racing line to get the win and said, “There was moisture that hadn’t been used all night on the bottom of turn two. You couldn’t stay down to hit it by running the low line. I was able to enter high and come back low exiting two.  I have to thank all of our sponsors. This M.O.W.A. series is a great thing, and we want to support it.”  The Monster Energy Sprint Car Series will return to action on May 27th at the Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, Illinois.  Fans can find out more about the Monster Energy Sprint Series at http://midwestopenwheel.com.
