Last week the season kicked off for the 2011 United States Modified Touring Series, Ryan Gustin won the opener over Jason Hughes. 72 cars were in attendance for the opener at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown Texas. Just before the event the USMTS announced their new point fund purse that would reward the USMTS National Champion with a $20k payday. “We are extremely excited and proud to announce that our overall points funds for 2011 will nearly double that of last year’s amount,” said USMTS President Todd Staley. “First and foremost, this would not be possible without the tremendous support that the fans and sponsors have shown for the series and the talented drivers and crewmembers that fill the pits.”

Drivers will compete in 6 regions for a chance to compete in “The Hunt”. Each region will also have its own points and points fund of $2500 to the region’s champion.  ‘The Hunt’ is comprised of the final 22 races of the season. Points are awarded at regional events, with the top-10 in the final standings of each region and those with perfect attendance in any region earning a spot in the season-ending title chase. The extremely popular modified series also unveiled a plan that would benefit drivers that support the series.
